Lady Burlesque

Toen ik de workshop voor deze dame voorbij zag komen op het internet aarzelde ik geen moment om  me hiervoor op te geven. Ik wacht nl al enige tijd op een workshop als dit: de techniek om een buste met hoofd, met alles er op en er aan, te maken. Ik heb veel uit boeken geleerd, maar soms ontkom je er toch niet aan om een workshop te volgen.

Deze dame is het resultaat van een 3-daagse workshop dat gegeven werd door Annelies van Tessel. Zij noemt haar creatie "Circus Lady. Maar, vanwege de theatrale, extravagante en sexy outfit vind ik "Lady Burlesque" meer van toepassing.

Wat een leuk mens is Annelies, met ontzettend veel humor zonder daarbij te vergeten om de cursisten datgene bij te brengen waar ze voor zijn gekomen.
Ik heb genoten en veel gelachen en wat was ik "greedy" om alle informatie op te nemen. Wat een leuke workshop was dit.
Uiteindelijk ging ik met veel kennis én met dit pronkstuk naar huis.

I´ve been waiting quite some time now for this: the technique to make a torso with head, with everything on it. I've learned a lot from books, but sometimes you need a workshop to master a technique.

This Lady is the result of a 3-day workshop given by Annelies van Tessel. 

She named her creation "Circus Lady". Personally I think "Lady Burlesque" is more applicable because of the theatrical, outrageous and sexy outfit.

What a nice person Annelies is, with lots of humor without forgetting to teach the students. I enjoyed her class very much, laughed a lot and was greedy to learn. What a fun workshop.

Eventually I went home with great knowledge and with this beautiful showpiece.

This time the skull is a chocolate mud cake.

The cake is topped and infused with a rich chocolat icing/ganache and  is made for someone who's a great fan of my chocolate cakes

.I love the smell of fresh baked chocolate cake. The aroma is craving and divine and last but certain not  least .. the cake taste as good as it smells.

Skully is, just like the Mecican Dia de los Muertos cake, made with the Wilton skull cake pan.
Can't wait to make a new one with a new look.

Safety helmet and police car cake - my second and third 3d-cake

I'm beginning to like making 3D cakes! 

The safety helmet was my 2nd 3D cake and made as a safety award for a company. I used a real helmet as an example. The customer's reaction: cool!!

To know how to execute the car cake I have pictures made of the toy. The pictures were taken by the proud grandfather who also ordered the cake for his little grandson's birthday.
The measurements weren't clear so I had to guess. I was happy with the result and so was the grandfather. Still waiting for the grandson's reaction though ....................

3D cakes are time-consuming to make, no need to explain that. It took me about 10 hours to make the helmet and about 18 hrs to make the police car. This includes baking, sculpting and decorating.

Volkswagen Van - my first 3D cake

I made this cake for my daughter's birthday on her request. She wanted to have the cake executed in the color the first van was brought on the market. I didn't know that it was green. I personally think an orange flower power van would have looked better but I could not convince my daughter. The van has to be green. And so I rest with her decision. After all it's her birthday.

There are different ways to make a bus/car out of cake. You can just have the sculpted cake rest on the board and stick the wheels to the sides. That is the easiest way. Or make cutouts to fit the wheels in and make a construction to have the car look like it is being lifted. The far more difficult way. I choose for the last option. I collected some pictures of Volkswagen vans with front, side and rear views (this is a helpful tool for the modelling) and started sculpting.  For a finishing touch I have the board covered with marzipan ánd flowers. So in the end it still got a flower power look.

Note: the cake was made out of chocolate cake.

A cake in the shape of a plane please

"Ok", my friend said. "I know what kind of cake I want. I want a cake in the shape of a plane and it has to be pink".
Those are the historical words of a friend who wants a cake for her daughter's birthday. It has to be in the shape of a plane because her daughter's boyfriend is getting his pilot license.

"Are you serious", I said (meanwhile quickly thinking of how to make it). "Yes", she said.

"But J., you want the whole cake to be in the shape of a plane", I said confused. I've never done that"

"And?", she said as if she does not see the problem? "You can do that. If you can make a pinup girl (referring to one of my cakes with a small (!) pinup figure on top) you can make a plane".

Well sure ... that makes sense.
